Glossybox: January 2013

Glossybox is a monthly beauty subscription box that handpicks the best beauty products and delivers them to your mailbox every month. This month was my fifth box. The theme of the January box is about starting a fresh new year by keeping moisturized with Glossybox's favorite skin-nourishing products.

Last month Glossies received a special limited edition silver box but now this month we go back to the traditional light pink boxes. Not to mention these boxes are great for storage around the house because their super sturdy.

On top of the products is a pamphlet indicating the products that are inside the Glossybox, the price, and a description of each product.

Contents of this month's box! I love seeing those full size products.

First up is the Wella Leave in Mousse for Colored Hair. I'm super excited that this mousse was included because I'm about to run out of my TRESemme mousse any day now. I used this mousse in my hair last night before I blow-dried my hair and it left my hair feeling super soft, not crunchy or greasy. The smell is amazing and it's great that this product is made for colored hair because dyeing it often can seriously suck the moisture out! This product is full size and retails for $17.99.

Next product in the January box is the Nivea Essential Lip Balm with Jojoba Oil and Shea Butter. I've used this lip balm before and it's seriously amazing! The formula is really thick and moisturizing so I use it before bed. When I wake up I can still feel it on my lips, that's how thick it is. The lip balm is clear so it won't deposit any color. This product is full size and retails for $2.00.

Next up is the Burt's Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk & Honey Body Lotion for normal to dry skin. During the cold months skin can be extra dry and itchy so it's good to moisturize skin on a daily basis. This body lotion is clinically proven to moisturize for up to 24 hours. The formula is really thick so it takes some time for it to absorb into the skin but once it does the skin feels so soft! The only downside for me is the smell because I'm not a huge fan of honey or herbal scents. This product is a deluxe sample size, the full size retails for $12.99

Next is the B.Kamins Maple Body Lotion and Lip Balm. I've never tried anything from the B.Kamins brand so I was curious to see how these products perform. The body lotion is nice and left a silky feeling on the skin however the smell is really bad, very close to baby wipes. I thought it was going to smell like maple because it does say Maple Body Lotion. As for the lip balm I didn't find it to be anything special, the formula is thick like the Nivea lip balm. Just like the body lotion, the smell isn't great. The lip balm smells like peppermint with a hint of plastic/crayon scent, which I can unfortunately taste. Glossybox doesn't say the price or if the products are full size.

Next up is the Beauty So Clean Cosmetic Sanitizing Wipes. These wipes are designed to remove bacteria that can build up on make up. I've never used these types of cosmetic wipes so it will be interesting to see how they work. I don't share my makeup with anyone so I don't mind the bacteria but makeup artists would love these! I'm probably going to use these wipes on my powder type products like blush, bronzer, and powder foundations that I use on a daily basis. Glossies received three strips of four wipes each (my third one got stuck to the bottom of another strip so it didn't get photographed). These wipes are not for use on the skin. These wipes are samples so Glossybox doesn't include the value, however they retail for $12.50/48 pack wipes. Each wipe is approximately $0.26.

Last but not least is the Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme. This is my first time seeing Glossybox include Sephora quality products. However I'm so sad that it's such a small sample. The length of the tube is the about the same as my thumb. I've tried this lip plumper at a Sephora store and it sure does plump the lips temporarily. I probably won't use this sample often because I don't need a lip plumper on a daily basis. The smell is really nice though, similar to a type of sweet candy! This product is a sample size, the full size retails for $28.00.

The total value of this box is approximately $23.11 (doesn't include Too Faced Lip Injection, B.Kamins body lotion and lip balm, and Burt's Bees body lotion since the values are unknown).

Overall I'm not super impressed with the January box. It saddens me to say that because Glossybox is one of the best beauty box subscriptions in Canada. I felt as though the theme of "keeping moisturized"  limited their options of products because we received three lip products and two body care products. Not to mention that Glossies have received Wella hair products before. The only products that I'm impressed with are the cosmetic wipes, the hair mousse, and the Nivea lip balm. Glossybox is known for their full size products and this month we received only two, compared to last months five full size products. I hope next months box is better than this one.
